What is the Dish TV Remote?

By incorporating voice recognition technology, the DISH TV remote lets you operate your Hopper DVR and other devices by acting as a Universal Remote. Search for shows by title, actor, or genre, change channels using voice commands, and control playback using play, pause, and rewind buttons.

In addition to voice control, the DISH remote has a touchpad for quick navigation, motion-activated illumination for low-light use, and a finder to help if you misplace it.

How does the Dish TV Remote work?

To use the DISH TV remote:

To activate voice control: Press and hold the remote’s microphone button. If this is your first time using it, enable voice control by following any on-screen instructions.

Issue Commands: State your command while holding down the microphone button. You can adjust playback functions or search for content by title, actor, or genre.

What are some of the commands you can give your Dish TV Remote?

You can operate your TV with the DISH Voice Remote. Change channels by name or number, search for content by title, actor, genre, or team, and control playback with commands like “Play” or “Rewind.”  Launch apps like Netflix, navigate through menus by saying “Guide” or “DVR,” and change settings by stating “Audio description on.” Hopper Plus users can ask common questions, request weather updates, and have smart home control. Press and hold the microphone button, speak your command, and release.

How do you use the locate remote feature?

Open the Hopper DVR front panel using the DISH remote finder, and press the “Locate Remote” button. Your remote will begin to beep when the lights are on. Listen to the noises to locate it. Click the remote’s button to turn off the lights and beeper.

How do I turn off the voice assistant on my DISH remote?

Press and hold the Microphone button on your DISH remote to turn off the voice assistant. When prompted, select “Stop sending data.” This turns off Google Assistant and other voice-activated functions. You can also confirm deactivation using on-screen alternatives. Voice commands will stop working unless enabled again during the first setup procedure.

Why does my DISH Voice remote not work?

If the DISH Voice Remote isn’t functioning, make sure the batteries have good connections and replace them if necessary. Press the Locate Remote button on the receiver to make sure the remote is linked, or press SAT and RECORD to re-link it via the System Info screen. Reset the receiver by unplugging it for ten seconds and if the issue persists, contact DISH support.

Does DISH Voice remote require internet?

The DISH Voice Remote requires an internet-connected Hopper to use the voice command features on the remote.  You’ll need an active DISH subscription too.
